SOX - Biggest IT Time Waster

China Martens confirms what many of us already feared...

"Share members who responded to an online poll said they expect complying with the mandates of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act to be the least effective or most wasteful use of their IT resources in coming years, followed by the deployment of unproven technologies.

28% of the 444 respondents cited Sarbanes-Oxley compliance as a time waster, while 23% chose the installation of unproven products.

19% opted for purchases of unneeded technologies, and 17% picked continued support of outdated hardware and software.

SPENDING ON SARBANES-OXLEY SOFTWARE CLIMBS

Linda Tucci at SearchCIO.com highlights some interestnig points on SARBOX IT budgets.

"Spending on Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) technology continues to rise, according to the latest research from AMR Research Inc. in Boston. This year technology purchases are expected to account for 32% of $6 billion in total SOX spending."

She add that AMR says 2006 is the year that many CIOs will take a good look at the quick fixes they have used in years past when trying to meet the demands of auditors. Now they'll try to implement software that will provide other benefits.
